Statement by the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya on the Recent Violence in Tseikuru, Kitui County

29th April 2026

The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) is deeply saddened by the recent cycle of attacks, retaliatory attacks and loss of innocent lives in Kwa Kamari, Tseikuru Sub-County, Kitui County. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in these tragic incidents. We pray for the quick recovery of those who were injured in the attacks.

The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya strongly condemns all forms of violence, regardless of the perpetrators or the reasons advanced. We hold that human life is sacred and no grievance justifies taking away of human life. We appeal to all concerned government agencies to conduct thorough and speedy investigations leading to the arrest and prosecution of those behind the brutal attacks and killings of innocent persons in the area.

Call for action:

We Call upon the Government of Kenya to strengthen security operations in Tseikuru and the broader region to prevent such occurrences in future and respond effectively whenever such happens.

We call upon all communities involved in the conflict to immediately cease all acts of violence and retaliation.

We urge residents to exercise maximum restraint and allow security agencies to perform their duties without interference.

We appeal to all religious leaders and community elders to utilize their platforms to promote healing and reconciliation.

We urge the political to desist from inciting communities against each other.

We call for an immediate and coordinated humanitarian response to support affected families. This should include provision of emergency medical care, psycho-social support, food assistance, and shelter for those who have lost their homes.

The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya reaffirms its commitment to continue working with the government and partners in fostering sustainable peace, dialogue, and reconciliation in Tseikuru and across our nation.
