Rev. Fr. Joseph Mutie

Rev. Fr. Joseph Ngumbi Mutie is the Chairman of the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) and the General Secretary of the Organization of African Instituted Churches, Kenya (OAIC-K).  Rev. Fr. Mutie is a holder of a Bachelor of Theology from Shibin El-Kom Theological Institute Egypt, has a Bachelor of Divinity from St. Pauls’ University Kenya, and a Masters in Development Studies from St. Pauls’ University and a PhD Development Studies Student from St. Pauls’ University, Kenya.

He is a priest in the Coptic Orthodox Church ordained in 1998. As a priest, Rev. Fr. Has served and trained on church doctrines in different countries and regions.

As the Chairman of IRCK, and the General Secretary of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches, Rev. Fr. Joseph was among the seven-member panel appointed by the president to interview candidates for the four vacant Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner positions, which was gazetted on April 26th, 2021. The Rev. Fr. has also been appointed by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta as a council member of the Inter-Faith Council on the National Response to the Coronavirus pandemic which among others was mandated to develop stringent protocols for the phased re-opening of the Places of Worship on 12th June 2020. Through the Council, he has travelled to various counties to sensitize and acclimatize faith communities to the protocols and guidelines of the Council. Rev. Fr. Mutie has managed to advocate for Faith communities through partnership with Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the National Anti-Corruption Campaign Steering Committee (NACCSC) in addressing corruption in the country through radio campaigns, print publications, panels and speeches during anti-corruption day. Through the Dialogue Reference Group, he has led the IRCK in addressing Peace, cohesion and dialogue in the Country.
